2007 Academy Awards

The 2007 Academy Awards are actually the ceremony held to honor the films of the year 2006. The 2007 Academy Awards will be the 79th annual event and held on February 25, 2007. For the last four years, the Academy Awards have been held in the Kodak Theatre and the 2007 Academy Awards are no exception. The Kodak Theatre is located in Hollywood near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland. The theatre first opened its doors in November 2001 and held its first Oscar ceremony the following April.

The ballots for the 2007 Academy Awards ceremony will be mailed to Academy members the day after Christmas, December 26, 2006. On Tuesday, January 23, 2007, the nominations will be announced at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. All the nominees will attend a luncheon on Monday, February 5, 2007. The scientific and technical awards are held separately from the acting awards show with a dinner on Saturday, February 10, 2007. All voting must be received by Tuesday, February 20, 2007. Then finally, the big night, the 79th Annual Academy Awards presentation is held on February 25, 2007.

What are some of the early predictions for the 2007 Academy Awards? Some believe that the film Snakes on Planes will be nominated in several categories, perhaps even sweeping the awards show. Mel Gibson seems to be a favorite in the Best Director category for his film Apocalypto. Natalie Portman received rave reviews for the film V for Vendetta and should be a shoe-in for a Best Actress nomination. In her second “Pirates” film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Keira Knightly may receive a well-deserved Best Supporting Actress nomination.

No matter who is nominated and who wins, you can bet that the 2007 Academy Awards ceremony will be a big success, watched by millions around the world.
