Preakness 2006 has proven to be a very exciting race. The Preakness Stakes is a horse race among thoroughbreds that is held every May. The race also goes by, “The run for the black-eyed Susan.” This is because the winning horse is usually presented with a horseshoe decorated with black-eyed Susans.
The favorite of the Preakness 2006 pre-race had a dramatic incident right out of the starting gate. The thoroughbred horse named Barbaro broke his leg. The horse famous for his Kentucky Derby win was not able to finish the race. Tragically, he will not be able to compete in any other races either.
The winning horse of Preakness 2006 was Bernardini. Bernardini comes from a long line of winning thoroughbred horses such as Seattle Slew. Seattle slew is famous for winning the Triple Crown. This win probably will not be the last for Bernardini as he starts his career as a famous thoroughbred racing horse.
The winner of Preakness 2006 was rode by jockey Javier Castellano. Castellano was born in Venezuela and now resides in New York. The horse was trained by Thomas Albertrani. Albertrani was born in Brooklyn and still resides in New York. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum is the owner of the horse and is the crown Prince of Dubai. He is also the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.
All three gentlemen listed above were very proud of their horse, Bernardini, for his accomplishment at Preakness 2006. However, they were equally saddened by the tragedy that occurred to their worthy opponent, Barbaro.
The runner up of Preakness 2006 was a horse named Afleet Alex. This horse was famous for its past wins including the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. The Preakness Stakes were very exciting and dramatic in 2006. Next year should be even more exciting.
